Is Your Body Skin Thirsty?

Winter months tend to rob our body skin of moisture. Heat, fires and longer, warmer showers and baths all draw moisture out of our skin.

WHAT’S MAKING YOUR SKIN DRIER?

Our body skin in no different than our facial skin when it come to the need for sloughing off the build-up of dead tissue.

When the skin has a thick barrier of dead tissue built up, the creams we apply are not able to effectively penetrate, which decreases the effectiveness of your body lotion.

HOW CAN YOU KEEP BODY SKIN MOISTURIZED?

The easiest way to keep your body skin moisturized is to use a body lotion that has an alpha hydroxy acid in it. This can help you maintain moisture while getting the added benefit of removing dead tissue.

Lactic and glycolic acid are some of the most common alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s) used in moisturizers for the body. When looking to purchase a new body lotion, look for AHA’s or Lactic/Glycolic acid as listed in the ingredients.

Lactic acid is particularly helpful for those who have dry skin and/or have Keratosis Pilaris, a common skin condition which causes tiny, rough bumps on the upper arms and legs.

HOW SHOULD I USE MY BODY LOTION?

Body Lotions will offer your skin more moisture if applied to slightly damp skin. I always recommend my Therapeutic Body Lotion.

After bathing, do a light dry with your towel and then immediately apply your body lotion.

Special notice should be taken about using a lotion that has AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid’s) in it if you have just shaven. Please do not apply those lotions directly after shaving to avoid stinging on the skin.

Ready to try this out for yourself? You can get your own bottle of Therapeutic Body Lotion.
